In mijn drang om modellen dichtbij huis te zoeken kwam ik op Model Mayhem Bianca tegen. En hoe dichtbij wil je het hebben, ze woont in hetzelfde dorp en op hemelsbreed 500 meter. Blijkt vervolgens ook nog eens dat haar jongere broertje bij mijn zoon in het basketball team zit. Het is echt soms een kleine wereld.

In my urge to find models close to home I stumbled upon Bianca on Model Mayhem. And just how close you want it, she even lives in the same village at 500 meters as the crow flies. And we also found out her younger brother plays in the same basketball team as my son. It’s a small world afterall. (continue reading…)

Via onze Dutch Strobists groep op Flickr was een weer een meeting georganiseerd, dit maal in Blerick. Groepslid Jordy had toestemming gekregen om in een oud treinendepot met een grote groep te mogen fotograferen. En dat alles dus Strobist stijl, dus met kleine reportageflitsers.
Onze grote groep van rond de twintig fotografen, stuk of tien modellen en twee visagistes mocht een dag lang tussen de oude NS locomotieven en wagons zich naar hartelust uitleven.

Through out Dutch Strobists group on Flickr we arranged for another meeting, this time in Blerick. Groupmember Jordy had arranged permission to shoot with a large group in an old traindepot. And all that in Strobist style, with small flashes.
Our big group of around twenty photographers, about ten models and two MUA’s were allowed to shoot the whole day between old railroad engines and wagons. (continue reading…)

Na de thuisshoot met Irene was het gelijk door naar de studio voor een shoot met Arthur. Voor hem was het zijn allereerste shoot en voor mij de eerste solo shoot met een mannelijk model. Visagiste Angie (ook bekend als mijn muse en model, dus multifunctioneel) was ook aanwezig om onze ideeën uit te kunnen werken.

After the homeshoot with Irene it was straight of to the studio voor a shoot with Arthur. For him it was his very first shoot and for me it was the first soloshoot with a male model. Voor een leuke shoot hoef je echt niet veel ruimte te hebben. Natuurlijk is een volledig uitgeruste studio prachtig maar ook met veel minder zijn leuke resultaten te bereiken. Ik werk daarom veel bij modellen thuis, al is het alleen maar om te bewijzen dat het kan. Eigenlijk is één goede muur als achtergrond en een plannetje al genoeg.

To do an nice shoot you don’t need much room. Ofcourse it is great to have a fully equipped studio, but with much less you can get nice results also. That’s why I work a lot at the models home, if only to prove it can be done. Actually all you need is one good wall as background and a plan. (continue reading…)

Michelle’s eerste fotoshoot, en dan ook  nog in haar eigen huisje. Veel ruimte was er niet maar toch hebben we in een uurtje een aantal leuke foto’s kunnen maken.

Michelle’s first photoshoot, and also in her own little appartment. There was not much space but in an hour we managed to make a couple if nice images.

Mandy is eigenlijk een beetje in het modellenwereldje gerold door een verzoek van een fotograaf op Hyves. Ze was helemaal niet op zoek naar fotoshoots. De eerste beviel zo goed dat ze zich inschreef op Model Mayhem. En daar kwam ik haar tegen.

Mandy sort of stumbled into the modelling world on a request from a photographer on Hyves (Dutch social network site). She was not looking for photoshoots. But she liked the first one and she registered on Model Mayhem. And that’s where I found her.

Ik heb al eerder hier over de Orbis Ring Flash adapter geschreven. Naarmate dat ding langer in mijn bezit is, krijg ik meer tijd en gelegenheid het in verschillende situaties uit te proberen. Een van de mogelijkheden is het gebruik van de Orbis bij productshoots.

Soms duurt het weken of maanden voordat je tot een afspraak komt voor een fotoshoot. Drukke agenda’s, geen locatie en een heleboel andere redenen kunnen daar de oorzaak van zijn. Maar als zowel fotograaf als model het gevoel hebben dat ze de shoot echt willen doen, is een afspraak zo gemaakt.

Sometimes it takes weeks or months before you make an appointment for a fotoshoot. Busy schedules, no location and a whole bunch of other reasons could be the cause of it. But when both photographer and model feel that they really want to do the shoot, an appointment is made quickly. (continue reading…)

Ik heb de bedenker van de Orbis, James Madelin, ontmoet op de Photokina in Keulen. Het originele plan daarna was dat ik een Orbis zou krijgen voordat de verkoop zou starten. Door allerlei andere zaken is dat niet gelukt en ondertussen is de Orbis al weer een tijdje leverbaar.

Ik heb mij exemplaar ontvangen en uitgeprobeerd. Lees verder voor mijn bevindingen.

I met the Orbis creator, James Madelin, at the Photokina in Cologne. The original plan was was that I would receive an Orbis before the sales would start. All kinds of stuff happened to prevent that and the Orbis in the meantime is on sale for quite some time.
