Bij het werken met nieuwe modellen wordt je soms aangenaam verrast. Ondanks dat het weer niet echt lekker was, veel wind en fris met een grote kans op regen zijn we toch naar de Galderse meren bij Breda gereden. Zoals te verwachten met deze vooruitzichten was er vrijwel niemand. We hadden het meer en de strandjes voor ons alleen. Alleen de wind was een probleem, de Westcott Apollo softbox moest goed vastgehouden worden door de assistente, Aletta’s moeder.

Working with new models you sometimes are pleasantly surprised. Despite the weather not being very nice, lots of wind, cool and a change of rain we did drive to the Galderse Meren near Breda. As can be expected with this weather forecast there was hardly anybody there. We had the lake and beaches all by ourselves. Only the wind was a problem, the Westcott Apollo softbox needed to be handled with both hands by the assistant, Aletta’s mother.

Soms moet je gewoon gebruik maken van het goede weer. Je weet tenslotte in Nederland nooit hoe lang het duurt. Daarom maar gelijk bij de eerste gelegenheid een shoot gepland met Kimberly.
Het gebied waar we de shoot wilden houden is gesloten voor auto’s. Kimberley’s scooter bracht ons zonder problemen precies op de plek waar we wilden zijn.
Het licht was hard, met de zon hoog in de lucht. Het was dus nog een hele uitdaging het beeld te krijgen dat we voor ogen hadden. Het resultaat mag er zijn.

Sometimes you just have to make use of the good weather. In the Netherlands you never know how long it lasts. That’s why I planned a shoot with Kimberley at the first opportunity.
The area we wanted to shoot at is closed for cars. Kimberley’s scooter brought us to our spot with ease.
The light was hard, with the sun high in the sky. It was quite a challenge to get the image we had envisioned. But the results are there.

Na de zeer prettige samenwering met goede resultaten een paar dagen geleden hebben we er nog een thuisshoot aan vast geplakt. Gewoon heel simpel een witte muur en een wit dekbed op de grond. Dan nog witte lingerie en een witte doek en voila, de resultaten van een avond hard werken.

After a great co-operation with good results a few days ago, we decided to add a home shoot. Just very simple with a white wall and a white bedcover on the floor. Then white lingerie and a white cloth and presto, the results of a night of hard work.

Op Model Mayhem kwam ik onlangs het portfolio van Nirmala tegen en ik wist het meteen, met haar moet ik een shoot doen. De expressie en looks waren perfect. Zelfs visagiste Angelina was onder de indruk en wilde persé  meedoen en kwam met een heel mooi idee.

On Model Mayhem I recently came upon the portfolio of Nirmala and instantly knew it, I have to do a shoot with her. The expression and looks were perfect. Even MUA Angelina was impressed and wanted in on the shoot and came up with a great idea.

Gebruik makend van het mooie weer, waar je hier in Nederland nooit van weet hoe lang het duurt, besloten we na de strandshoot nog wat meer geklede foto’s te maken. Het groepje werd uitgebreid met Pamela, het tweelingzusje van Kimberly.

Using the spell of good weather, which you never know how long it lasts here in the Netherlands, we decides after the beachshoot to add some clothed shots. The group became a bit larger with Pamela, Kimberly’s twin sister, joining.

Een eerste shoot met Sheila stond al anderhalf jaar geleden op de agenda. Door omstandigheden ging die toen niet door. Maar de volhouder wint en daarom wilden we van het mooie weer gebruik maken. We besloten er een strandshoot van te maken.
Diverse vriendinnen passeerden de revue om mee te gaan. Uiteindelijk werd het Kimberly.
Het strand van Rockanje was leeg maar de temperatuur en de wind maakten het redelijk fris. Daarom zochten we een plekje in de duinen met een beetje beschutting.

A first shoot with Sheila was planned a year and a halve ago. Circumstances prevented that one from happening. But we persevered and that’s why we wanted to make use of the great weather.
We decided to make a beach shoot.
Several friends were asked to join in. Eventually is was Kimberly.
The beach at Rockanje was empty but the temperature and the wind made it chilly. That why we found a spot in the dunes with a little protection.

Gelukkig werkte het weer deze keer beter mee, een mooi zonnetje en een lekkere temperatuur.
Ook nu weer een groot aantal modellen en fotografen, en niet te vergeten visagisten (daar hebben we er helaas altijd te weinig van). Ook nu was er weer een verlaten pand gevonden dat was overgenomen door graffiti kunstenaars.

Luckily the weather did co-operate this time, beautiful sunshine and nice temperatures.
This meet again lost of models and photographers, an lets no forget, make up artists (of which we always seem to have not enough of). We managed to find an old abandoned building that was taken over by graffiti artists. (continue reading…)

In mijn drang om modellen dichtbij huis te zoeken kwam ik op Model Mayhem Bianca tegen. En hoe dichtbij wil je het hebben, ze woont in hetzelfde dorp en op hemelsbreed 500 meter. Blijkt vervolgens ook nog eens dat haar jongere broertje bij mijn zoon in het basketball team zit. Het is echt soms een kleine wereld.

In my urge to find models close to home I stumbled upon Bianca on Model Mayhem. And just how close you want it, she even lives in the same village at 500 meters as the crow flies. And we also found out her younger brother plays in the same basketball team as my son. It’s a small world afterall. (continue reading…)

Via onze Dutch Strobists groep op Flickr was een weer een meeting georganiseerd, dit maal in Blerick. Groepslid Jordy had toestemming gekregen om in een oud treinendepot met een grote groep te mogen fotograferen. En dat alles dus Strobist stijl, dus met kleine reportageflitsers.
Onze grote groep van rond de twintig fotografen, stuk of tien modellen en twee visagistes mocht een dag lang tussen de oude NS locomotieven en wagons zich naar hartelust uitleven.

Through out Dutch Strobists group on Flickr we arranged for another meeting, this time in Blerick. Groupmember Jordy had arranged permission to shoot with a large group in an old traindepot. And all that in Strobist style, with small flashes.
Our big group of around twenty photographers, about ten models and two MUA’s were allowed to shoot the whole day between old railroad engines and wagons. (continue reading…)

Soms kruizen op de meest onverwachte momenten de meest fantastische modellen je pad. In dit geval had ik met Angie afgesproken dat ik foto’s zou maken voor haar visagie site. Een vriendin van haar, Priscilla, zou poseren. Iets wat ze nooit eerder had gedaan. Angie was er vooraf stellig van overtuigd dat Priscilla het perfecte model hier voor zou zijn. Een klein understatement.

Sometimes at the most unexpected moments the most amazing models cross your path. In this case I had agreed with Angie to do photo’s for her MUA website. A friend of hers, Priscilla, would model. Something she had not done before. Beforehand Angie was adement that Priscilla would be the perfect model for this. A small understatement. (continue reading…)
